We are Garde Hotels. Where time becomes a treasure

Garde Hotels is a collection of unique hotels and restaurants, each with its own character and story, brought together under one name and one philosophy: adding value to time. Not a chain, not a cookie-cutter collection of a hundred identical rooms, but a handful of special places that we have carefully curated, one by one.

How it all began

In 2021, we, Jan and Marloes, had the opportunity to take over Hotel Corps de Garde. It’s a special place, full of character and history. We jumped at the chance because we believed in what a place like this could offer: a hotel where you take the time, for each other, for yourself, and for your family.

Because time and genuine attention are the most precious things there are. Not as an abstract concept, but as something you can feel. In a place that touches you. In a conversation that means something. In the way someone cares for you.

When we opened Hotel Halbert and Restaurant Blumé in 2023, that conviction only grew stronger. Garde Hotels gave rise to a collection of exceptional hotels and restaurants, each with its own character and story, united under a single name and a single philosophy: adding value to time.

    Hotel Corps de Garde

    The oldest building in our collection and the place where it all began. Hotel Corps de Garde dates back to 1634 and has served as a hotel since 1991. In the summer of 2021, we completely restored it and gave it a contemporary look, without compromising the building’s character. The nineteen rooms exude history, and part of the old city wall has been preserved in the basement. At Het Wachthuis, you can start your day with a hearty breakfast or a freshly prepared lunch.

    Hotel Halbert

    Located on the charming Oude Boteringestraat, among the city’s oldest and best-preserved buildings, you’ll find Hotel Halbert. This four-star boutique hotel is named after Professor Tjalling Joostes Halbertsma, whose adventurous spirit is still palpable within the building. Here, history and modern luxury come together, with rooms ranging from comfortable to the exclusive grand suite. At Café Tjall, you can pull up a chair for breakfast or a drink. An ideal base for exploring Groningen, whether for culture, a long weekend, or a business meeting.

    Restaurant Blumé

    At Restaurant Blumé, gastronomy is all about attention—attention to one another, to the ingredients, and to the moment. Chef Henrice Dijks cooks with the seasons, using wholesome ingredients and vegetables from the restaurant’s own garden, and combines traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques. The result is a cuisine that never ceases to surprise and has even garnered recognition beyond the city limits: Blumé is listed in the MICHELIN Guide.

    Deep within the historic basement of Hotel Corps de Garde, nestled within its centuries-old walls, lies Souterrain 1634. A place for the flexitarian, where vegetables take center stage. The kitchen showcases just how refined and complex vegetables can be, with dishes that evolve with the seasons. Those who wish may choose a fish or meat accompaniment, carefully selected but always playing a supporting role.
